What Could Rapid Heart Rate Suggest?

Hi I am 16 and for the past year or so, my heart has been pumping really "hard". It seems when I do simple tasks like walk up stairs if I sit down after that my heart is like beating out of my chest and when I feel my pulse on my neck it is like pushing out so far. Should I be consirned. Age:16 weight:130

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to anxiety or physical activity.

Anyway, I would recommend performing some tests in order to investigate other possible causes that may lead to this clinical situation:

- a resting ECG
- complete blood count for anaemia
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid gland dysfunction
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
