Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Recurring Loss Of Taste Post Recovery From Flu Indicate?
I am a 57 year old male with no health issues. I do not smoke and drink approx. 1 drink every 2 weeks. I recently had the flu over about a 7 day period. On day 4 I lost my taste. I also can t smell anything. I am without any other symptoms at this time and am feeling back to normal. This same thing happened about 4 years ago and my taste slowly returned after several months . There were certain things that I could not taste over the last couple of years but I could taste approx. 90% of everything else. I have been to a Eye, Ear Nose and Throat specialist, an allergy doctor and have had a CAT Scan of my head all with negative results (the last time this happened). Any suggestions on where to start this time??
You have check once before in my opinion nothing to be done this time. This might highly be suggestive of viral infections. Just a rest liquids and vitamins.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
