What Could Recurring Pain In Left Arm, Racing Heart And Shortness Of Breath Indicate?

My left arm hurts after I eat. I m trying to track whether it is sugar or salt that causes it. After I walk up the stairs in my house, it also hurts. I have to lay down. The pain is not immense but an achey pain, but I am also short of breath and my heart races. This has been going on for a long time, but seems to be worse over the last week. I have been to a cardiologist and had a Cardiac Catheterization done a year ago and everything looked great. I am a 38 year old female. I am 5 3 and weigh 180.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you had a cardiac catherterization done a year before and now have shortness of breath, pain in left arm and palpitations, you are suggested to get a follow up clinical examination by your treating cardiologist. Such symptoms may be indicative of heart blockage, myocardial infarction, heart attack(silent), developing coronary artery disease (CAD), angina, etc.

However the other medical conditions associated with such symptoms may be muscle strain, rotator cuff trauma / injury, carpal tunnel issues etc. Get a complete health check up and cardiac check up done to be at the safer side. Get all blood tests, CBC, urinalysis, lipid function tests, stress test, EKG, Imaging (X-ray, MRI / CT, etc) done. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected 7 severity of your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
