What Could Recurring Painful Bump On Tailbone Indicate?

Hi. I dont really know what it is i have but i have gotten this swolling lump on my tailbone. I got this for the first time like 4-5 years ago. I went to a doctor and they gave me antibiotics so the swelling would go down. They wanted to open the lump after and remove it but i got scared and just took My medication and let it be. Then i got the thing again about less of a year ago and the doctor told me to take the same medicin but when i told him that i wanted to remove it so it never comes back again, he told me that the procedure was to complicated for this little thing . And now it has started to swell again. I can feel the pain coming on and the last time i had it, it was soooo painful that i dont want to experience that type of pain again. What can i do??? Why does this keep happening?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

At this area it may indicate several issues and most common are pilonidal cyst or perianal abscesses.

These are inflammatory processes in sacral and perianal area usually manifested with pain, redness, swelling, fever and pus discharge. Cellulitis is less common and may be present in sacral area as well.

This is mostly caused by beta hemolytic streptoccocus and it necessitates antibiotic treatment with augmentin, or combination of ciprinol+ metronidazole.

You should also, apply cold compresses, take nonsteroid painkillers such as ibuprofen 400mg and rest. If there is no improvement within 2 days, you should see doctor and have intravenous antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
