Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Recurring Popping Sound In Left Ear Indicate?
My left ear has started to make a popping noise. Nothing special seems to trigger the pop noise, neither tilting my head, or bending over. Will pop even if I'm still. Seems to occur once every 10 to 15 min. It's almost like having water in the ear. This has been going on for 3 days.
There is a connecting tract (known as Eustachian tube) between the nasopharynx & middle ear through which pressure equilibrium is maintained. Any obstruction to this Eustachian tube, secondary to an upper respiratory tract infection, sinusitis, cold & congestion, can lead to stuffiness/ popping sound by causing un-equalisation of pressure between the nasopharynx & middle ear.
Clinical examination is important for diagnosis, so I will advise you to consult your Doctor/ ENT specialist for a proper clinical examination. Certain investigations like PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) and an Impedance Audiometry (Tympanometry) should be done after examination of your ear drum to detect any pathological cause for your symptoms.
Wish you good health & a speedy recovery. Take care.
