What Could Recurring Sore, Swollen Throat With Black Lump Near The Tonsil Indicate?

my sister has had a sore swollen throat on and off now for 6 months, she has been given antibiotics which seems to help for a short while. However, she now has a small black lump on the back left of her mouth (near but not on her tonsil). It's about the size of a 5 pence piece. She has been referred to ENT next week but is obviously very worried!

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have sore throat from last 6 months and now have red patch in throat . The symptoms you mention in query are indicating strep throat as antibiotics giving relief . But sometimes low body immunity incomplete antibiotics course or some underlying factors cause recurrent bouts of throat infection . The red patch you mention in query can occur due to formation of clot or it can be serous condition also . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order blood test , virus culture test or take biopsy for lab test . Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics along with anti inflammatory and anti histamines . for now do warm saline gargles and betadine gargles alternately .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
