What Could Severe Pain In Ear With Swollen Lump Near The Ear Opening Indicate?
My son 16 started complaining yesterday bout ear hurting some we cleaned it and saw that his lil thing tht covers ear lobe was a bit swollen.by today he has a very bad ear ache and he has a pea sized lump thr and it is swollen by opening of ear.. Have tried acv peroxide tea bag heat relief drops nothings workin...also started ammoxicilin..any ideas
As per my clinical experience, the condition of acute pain in ear with swelling near the ear opening indicates acute bacterial infection. The otitis media or externa are prominent causes with relatively common gram positive bugs as strep pneumoniae, staph aureus or others. The swelling behind ear indicate post auricular lymph node enlargement.
My guidelines at present: - Keep the ear covered with sterile cotton plug - Do not pock anything inside the ear canal - Pour antibiotic drops as Gentamicin or Tobramycin into ear cavity 3 times a day - Oral antibiotic as Amoxycillin with combination of Clavulanic Acid 12 hourly - Avoid smoking or any other recreational drugs used previously if any
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
