Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Severe Pain In Neck And Head With Difficulty In Opening The Mouth Indicate?
My Mother, age 90, was taken to hosp. a couple of years ago and was diagnosed with a condition I cannot remember the name of. She was prescribed Gabbapentin which she was told she must take 3 times daily for life. She does, but it seems to be re-occurring. She is currently in hosp, for pneumonia and the staff does not recognize the condition I m talking about. The main symptoms are severe neck and head pain and difficulty opening her mouth. Do you know from these symptoms what this condition may be called? Thank you Uta
It may be cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy with dysphagia or TM joint osteoarthritis or cranial nerve palsy etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. For radicular pain you may continue Gabapentin. Liquid diet may be useful. If the symptoms not improved please consult with your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu, Internal Medicine Specialist
