What Could Severe Pain On Base Of Skull Radiating To Ears And Forehead Indicate?

I have a terrible pain at the base of my skull. It feels like crick in my neck or stiff neck but I am able to move it! No head injury or recent fall. The pain sometimes radiates up through my ear and forehead I am a 48 year old female with hypertension, cholesterol and thyroid all being treated with meds.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,
I understand your concern.
The pain /stiffnessat the base of neck radiating to ear, forehead -indicates problem in cervical spine ( spondylitis/ disc problem). It is adegenarative change in cervical spine causing pressure/ pinching of nerve roots comming out of spine. This results pain in the area supplied by the nerves.
- X ray/ CT scan / MRI would diagnose the condition.
- You should consult an Orthpedic surgeon for treatment.
- Physiotherapy, pain controlling drugs, usually suffice.surgical treatment is recommended for non responding patients.
Thanks.
