What Could Small, Dark, Hard Bump On Inner Thigh Oozing Blood Indicate?

I had a small, dark, hard bump on my inner thigh and at first I thought it was an ingrown hair and its been around for a month or two now so I finally punctured the skin with a needle and squeezed really hard and there was no hair but like.. a clump of blood? It looked almost like a blood clot? And after that came out it started bleeding a lot. I m sorry, this is probably really gross.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Often bacteria can be trapped in a hair follicle or oil glands due to friction or trauma in the area. Inner thighs are a common site, as these may rub against each other, particularly during the hot and humid season due to presence of excessive sweating. Staphylococcus is a common bacteria which is present on skin and it may cause boils in the area. A boil is a localized infection in the skin that begins as a red and tender area.

Over time the area becomes more hard, firm and tender. Over times the center of the boil becomes soft and filled with infection fighting white blood cells from blood stream to eradicate the infection. Usually local hygiene and cleanliness, local warm compresses and sometimes a course of antibiotic may be needed to cure the condition. OTC anti-pain or anti-inflammatory drugs like Tylenol or ibuprofen may be also given to control the symptoms of pain etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
