What Could Sore Throat With Lumps Suggest?

Last week I had a sore throat for about 3 days! I noticed when looking at the back of my throat that there was a pea size whitish lump on the left side of my throat where I guess my tonsils would have been. Can this be something bad. My throat doesn't hurt anymore but I still have some mucus back there and I still have this horrible taste and smell in my mouth.
