General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Spasms in the upper torso commonly occurs due to muscle strain, overuse, muscle fatigue, neurological disorder, multiple sclerosis, etc. Other medical conditions may be fibromyalgia, liver pain or anxiety disorder.

They can trigger pain & discomfort. A strain of any of the layers of the intercostal muscles can cause pain and difficulty breathing. Muscle strains are a common cause of chest pain.

You are suggested to take muscle relaxants like Soma (carisoprodol) or Zanaflex (tizanidine), one sos when required. Acetaminophen is also effective.

Once the muscles relax you will have less of breathing problems & other discomfort. It may take time to get well.

Contact a physiothrapist & do chest stretch exercises. It is effective. Since you have stiffning of your limbs you can take vitaminB, B12 rich food or supplements. It is inicative of developing nerve disorder.

If symptoms prevail, visit ER & get clinically examined. Get blood & imaging tests done. Get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
