What Could Spotting, Cramps And Nausea Post Periods Indicate?

Hello! I have had intercourse the week prior to my period and it was unprotected, I ended up getting my period a week later (even though it was a day later) then 2 days after I ended my period I had spotting (pink color and it had a little red speck on it) cramping, a migraine, and I feel nauseous. I would go to the doctor for a check up but I have no insurance.

Hello, and I hope I can answer your question.

When you have a late and abnormal period, if you are having unprotected sex there there is always a possibility of pregnancy. I suggest you purchase a home urine pregnancy test and do the test as soon as possible. If it is negative, that just means you may have either had a very early miscarriage, or you just may have had your period come late for another reason. Stress, changes in weight, long travel and even worrying a lot about getting pregnant may cause a delay in your cycle. When women get their period after it is late- it is usually more symptomatic than a cycle that is on time due to the buildup of hormones for a longer period of time.

So in summary- I suggest you check a urine pregnancy test. If it is positive, you should make an appointment with a doctor. If you are in the US, health coverage is guaranteed in the Obama marketplace for pregnant women.

If it is negative, there is nothing to worry about, your symptoms will get better over time and most likely your next cycle will be normal.

I hope this information was helpful and that I adequately answered your question.

Best wishes, Dr. Brown
