Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
why would you put a stent in the gallbladder? I believe the problem why it was done because the gallbladder was leaking into the stomach and causing the person to throw-up. If this was done, where would the fluid from the stent go? Since I believe they didn t want the stuff from the gallbladder going into the stomach?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Based on the description, it appears that there would have been development of fistula between stomach and gall bladder duct (bile duct), which could have narrowed the lumen of gall bladder duct. Hence, the doctors must have removed the connecting tissue part (fistula) and put a stent so as to keep the biliary duct patent for bile to pass through easily. Otherwise, it may lead to stagnation of bile at that point due to lumen narrowing, followed by regurgitation of bile, leading to the development of obstructive jaundice and other complications associated with it. Hope the information provided would be helpful. Best wishes.
