What Could Strange Odor Of Urine After Magnesium And Alphalipoic Intake Indicate?

During the last fortnight, my dr. has prescribed magnesium and alpha lipoic for migraines and biotin for dry and split nails. Now my pee smells like i eat brussel sprouts 24 hours a day. Would any of these vitamins cause this odour? I am 50 years old and have stopped having any menopausal symptoms for 1 year. They started at age 44 and now are done. Any idea? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Vitamins and nutritional supplements have a well-known reputation to cause odors in the urine, especially the B vitamins since they are removed particularly by the kidneys.

Biotin is reported to cause urine to have an odor as well as alpha lipoic acid. The odor is usually described as a mild "sulfur" like smell.

I don't know that biotin causes Brussel sprouts to smell as relayed by folks. Nonetheless, there is an odor that people report after taking this as a nutritional supplement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
