Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern, and would explain that these symptoms may be related to an infection, such as a pneumonia.

Diabetes can lead to a higher risk for infections, comparing with non diabetic persons.

What are his blood pressure values? Does he take any medication for high blood pressure?

I recommend consulting with the GP for a careful physical examination, a resting ECG, a chest x ray and some lab tests:

- fasting glucose and HbA1C
- complete blood count for infection
- inflammation tests ( fibrinogen, PCR, sedimentation)
- liver and kidney function tests
- blood electrolytes.

You should closely monitor his blood pressure. If it is not stabilized with his therapy, you should bring him to the ER.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri
