What Could Sudden, Severe Pain In Abdomen Indicate?
Hi, my girlfriend was laying down sick on a couch until she felt a terrible pain in her abdominal regions. She slowly walked up to the bathroom not knowing if she was going to throw up or not. She leaned on the sink ready to vomit. She didn t end up vomiting. I asked her if her pains was in a certain area of the stomach. She said it was the whole abdominal regions and wasn t in a specific spot. She said it didn t feel sharp . I d really appreciate a medical opinion on this on what it could have been
This type of sudden pain may be due to spasm or acute choleycystitis or bilateral kidney stones or pelvic inflammatory disease but it must be evaluated further by clinical examination of abdomen and various tests.
She should undergo routine blood investigations with x- ray abdomen and ultrasound abdomen first to make a confirm diagnosis.
Treatment will be based on underlying cause but she can take symptomatic treatment till that like over the counter pain killers with antispasmodics (tablet cyclopam) with antacids (pantoprazole) and anti-emetics (ondasetron).
Consult physician or gastroenterologist immediately for further advise.
