Hello,

Thick ear discharge in an infant may be indicative of cold, ear infection, inflammation of the inner ear, etc. Infection by bacteria or viruses cause ear infection. The infection causes inflammation and swelling of the eustachian tube. The tube narrows and fluid builds behind the eardrum, causing pressure and pain. You are suggested to get your baby clinically examined by a pediatrician or in the ER so that he can be treated before other complications like fever, pain etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
