What Could Ulcerative Colitis With Diarrhea Suggest?

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 2 yrs ago and is now in remission. Now I when i go to the bathroom I have diaherra but no blood and have to go repeatly even when finished. To go along with this uncomfortable process I get this foul smelling gas, and it is disrupting my life. I am going for a colonoscopy this month also.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Ulcerative colitis is a fairly common chronic or long-term disease that causes inflammation of the large intestine.

Gas and mucous in stools may be due to abnormal bacteria growth or altered flora.

Inflammation causes mucous production and pain in abdomen. You have flare-ups and need to be treated with antibiotics and immunosuppressants.

Please consult your gastroentrologist who will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
