What Could Vision Of Flashes From Corner Of Right Eye With Itchiness Indicate?

Last night when I turned off the light to go to bed, I saw persistent flashes out of the corner of my right eye, which has been itchy of late. I read this morning that that may be retinal detachment, but later today, I locked myself in a dark room for a few minutes and no flashes occured. Can these symptoms self-correct? Please advise.

Hi,

Local pressure on the eye triggers the nerves and causes flashing lights. This can be after rubbing it; and not serious rubbing; not rubbing causing retinal detachment but just rubbing. Can be with glaucoma, migraine, or detachment, can't say.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman, Addiction Medicine Specialist
