What Do Abnormal Cells In Pap Smear Test Mean?

Hello, My 23 year old daughter has had 2 consecutive pap smears that show abnormal cells. She has had the vaccine that was put out by Merck. I think it is the HPV. It s been a controversial vaccine. There is a lot of cancer in my husbands family. Such as, pancreatic, lots of breast cancer ( 2 Aunts and his sister) and kidney cancer. I am concerned about my daughter.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi thanks for contacting HCM.

Noted your daughter pap smear showing abnormal cells..Which abnormal cells present ???

It might be ascus or CIN...If it is cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or 3 then periodic check up with pap smear done at regular interval...

As your husband's family running with many cancers .., So genetic mutation might be the cause like P53 mutation ...

So it can be checked by PCR or FISH like investigation...

Hope your concern solved.

Take care.
