What Do Abnormal Facial Expressions In A Child Indicate?

Hi do you I need to worry about my 8 year old daughter s facial expressions? I was thinking it was just a nervous habit, but daycare provider is concerned. my daughter stretches her mouth wide like a yawn, but does it quickly, she used to lick or bite on her upper or lower lips but has quit that...how do I know if its just a nervous tick or something more going on?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be correct, the facial expression could be a nervous tick. But there is nothing to worry. Just warn the child about the behavior that it could lead to some future disorder and the expression goes. Or you could consult a therapist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards,
Dr. K. V. Anand
