What Do Absence Of Hydronephrosis In The Below Ultrasound Report Of The Kidney Indicate?

Ultrasound examination of the kidneys was performed with multiple static images obtained. The right kidney measures 10.2 cm in length. It maintains normal cortical thickness and echogenicity. In the superior pole there is a simple cyst measuring 0.6 x 0.4 x 0.5 cm. There is no hydronephrosis, nephrolithiasis or perinephric fluid collections. The left kidney measures 10.5 cm in length. It maintains normal cortical thickness and echogenicity. In the superior pole there is also suggestion of a cyst measuring 1.4 x 1.1 x 1.3 cm without color flow. There is question of some internal echoes in this cyst. Follow-up ultrasound exam in 6 months is recommended to ensure stability. Further characterization could also be obtained with dedicated MRI of the kidneys. There is no hydronephrosis, nephrolithiasis or perinephric fluid collections.

Thank you for your question,

absence of hydronephrosis means that your kidney is not swollen with fluid due to an obstruction further on in the urinary tract eg- a kidney stone. It also says that there were no kidney stones found (no nephrolithiasis). So the findings are normal for your kidney except for the cyst so a repeat Ultrasound is recommended to see this has not grown as mentioned.

Kind regards
