General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

A normal MRI can reassure that the liver, pancreas, spleen and other solid structures and organs in the abdomen are normal but can not well visualize organs that contain air. So very likely your friend has a problem with his stomach or bowel. it is important for him to first have an upper endoscopy (gastroscopy) to rule out problems with the stomach. A possible cause can be peptic ulcer disease and if confirmed he can have proper treatment prescribed by his doctor.

Meanwhile he can try omeprazole 1-2 tablets a day and be cautious with his food (not large meals but frequent small amounts; avoid acid, spicy, fried and fast food; avoid alcohol, coffee and smoking; etc)
If he gets blood with stools or dark black stools he needs to urgently see a doctor as this might indicate a bleeding in his gastrointestinal system.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
