Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have large dark patches on my cheekbones and some small ones on other places of my face. Is there a health concern that I should be aware of? How can I safely lighten them? I am religious about protecting my skin with sunscreen, large sun glasses, avoiding sun and hats, yet I still have these dark spots. I have tried to cover them with make-up and nothing really hides them. Thank you
Hello and welcome to HCM, Development of new dark colored patches on cheek bones suggests hormonal imbalance in body. Dark colored patches can be seen during pregnancy and these are related to changes in hormones in body. I suggest you to consult a physician for clinical assessment and estimation of cortisol in body. Elevated levels of cortisol is associated with dark discoloration of cheek bones.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
