What Do Delayed Periods And Negative Pregnancy Result After Missing Depo Shot Indicate?

I took the depot shot 1 time and never went back to get my 2nd dose. I feel like im pregnant, I have been taking unprotected sex every since I stopped the depot. I have taken 10 urine test and they came back negative. Is there a possibility that im pregnant or just dealing with the post depot shot symptoms?

Thank you for your question. Most women who get depot shot will be able to tolerate the unscheduled bleeding. Normally, more than half of all women who use Depot shot contraceptive injection may skip a period. And having no periods does not mean you are pregnant. That good that you do pregnancy test when you missed period. It is a smart thing to check first. But fifty percent of women who desire pregnancy will be pregnant within 10 months after their last Depot shot. Accordingly, Depot shot is not recommend to women who wish to conceive in the next one to two years. You may have menstrual period back sometime after you stop taking the depot shot.

If you prefer to conceive Depot shot is not a good choice for you. For my patient who prefer contraceptive less than 3 years and her age less than 35 years I would prescribe them Oral Contraceptive that contain estrogen and progesterone.
