What Do Dense Lungs Mean?

I went to the dr today and he said that my lungs sound dense. When I asked what that meant he said it means I want to send you for some tests he scheduled me for chest xrays, an echo cardiogram, and a breathing test. Can you tell me what this could mean? I have never heard of dense lungs before

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Normally lung sounds clear with out any extra abnormal sound.
But when it sounds like crepitations or rhonchi than this means that there is some problem.
Dense sounds means congested lungs.
And congestion is mostly due to fluid over load.
And fluid over load is seen in cardiac disease like heart failure and Pulmonary disease like bronchitis and pneumonia.
So to rule out heart failure, cardiogram and 2d echo are needed.
To rule out Pulmonary causes, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test - breathing test) are needed.
So better to get done these tests, first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
