What Do Dyplastic Kidney And Renal Cortical Cyst Mean?
Hi - my son is aged 11. I have just received a letter from his consultant indicating that he has a right small dysplastic kidney and a renal cortical cyst on the left kidney measuring 10mm. What does that mean? I ould b grateful if you could please advise what is the prognosis for him? Many thanks
The dysplastic kidney at the age of 11 means congenital cyst disorder of the kidney as developmental disorder and manifesting at a later date. The prognosis depends upon multiple parameters as: - Current kidney function status with creatinine, urea level - Urinary infection - Hypertension - Systemic effects from protein loss, electrolyte imbalance or else.
If you can provide me further details of the symptoms and the lab data, it would be of great help to discuss further accordingly. Till that time, I can tell that many of the patients do respond very well to preserve the kidney function with conservative medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
