What Do Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase And GGT Levels Indicate?
My mother is 76 years of age. In April, she had a severe case of bronchitis, which she took several antibiotics for, with Levaquin being the strongest. A week after she finished the medication, she went for her scheduled check-up with her internist where routine blood work was done. Her Alk Phos was elevated with a reading of 134. Her AST was 19 and ALT was 26. Bili Direct was .11 and Bili Indirect was .19. Internist thought the antibiotics were the culprit for the elevated results. She had her re-take the tests a month later and her Alk Phos is higher than it was a month ago...it is 167 and her her GGT is 154. Is this reason to be concerned and what could it indicate? She does not consume alcoholic beverages.
