What Do Elevated Levels Of DsDNA And Presence Of Amorphous Sediment In Blood And Urinalysis Suggest?

my blood and urinalysis came back. my dsDNA is 24 (slightly elevated again even though I ve been on hydroxycholorquine for over a year and half, but it has helped most of my symptoms to some extent). and she ordered other tests which came back normal except the Amorphous sediment shows present and this is listed as abnormal . Everything I ve read on the internet is so vague. What does this have to do with Lupus. I think she was looking for kidney function? But C3, c4 and epithelial cells, casts, etc are all normal. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The urinalysis would be looking for any kidney damage from the lupus, which would usually show up with protein and / or blood in the urine. It sounds like none was seen, so that is a good sign the kidneys are not involved currently.

I would not be concerned about the amorphous sediment, which is usually not important and could be related to dehydration, or collection or uric acid or calcium in the urine. Your dsDNA level would also not be concerning without any other symptoms or findings, so I would say overall your results are reassuring that your lupus is under good control.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
