What Do Episodes Of High BP, Clammy Feet And Hands After Withdrawal From Birth Control Suggest?

Hi, I am a 46 year old woman and I m currently on birth control pills just to regulate my cycle. I went off on Thursday because it was my period week and starting Saturday I began to experience these odd adrenaline-rush feelings that really scared me. They would come every minute or every couple of minutes but would only last a few seconds. My blood pressure would surge up but no heart palpitations. My hands would also get really clammy and my feet too. Ive also been experiencing a painful headache for the past two days. What could this possibly be? It doesn t seem to be going away.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I went through your case summary and would like to reassure you that all of these symptoms are that of menopause. Women during the peri-menopausal period have such hot flushes and clammy limbs, headache etc. However, I am missing on that part of your clinical history why you were put on pills for regulation of menstrual cycle at 46 years of age. There must be some other reason other than irregular periods. Irregular periods is an hallmark of menopause attaining and you are already in that age group to attain menopause. So in this peri-menopausal age group, you may not want to regularise your cycle as irregular cycle is a normal harmless phenomenon to be expected at your age. Therefore, be reassured that these symptoms are a part of attaining menopause and discuss with your doctor if birth pills are only for cycle regularization.
