What Do Hot Flashes And Normal Thyroid Profile Suggest?

Is it possible for your thyroid to work ok sometimes and other times not work? I have had my thyroid tested and the results say everything is fine. From time to time I get hot flashes, I am on estrogen patches so it is not menopause related...that should be fine since I am on a patch. I have fatigue, dry skin, I am over weight, depressed (take Effexor for that). I have a growth on my thyroid that is being followed to see if it is cancer, they have not been able to get enough of it to sample it, so everything 6 months it is being monitored via ultrasound.

Hello,

There is no age mentioned in the query, so I am assuming you are on estrogen patch for a part of menopausal treatment. Therefore, in spite of external supplement "hot flashes: can still occur at that age. As regards thyroid gland it either functions normally or does not function so. There can be subclinical hypothyroidism (under functioning) resulting similar symptoms as seen in clinically diagnosed hypothyroidism.

Many a times in sub-clinical hypothyroidism treatment with adequate dosage of levothyroxine is initiated to control the symptoms like dry skin, weight gain and menstrua issues. Another aspect in your query there is no mention of either T3, T4 and TSH levels or anti TPO antibodies, plus the actual size of the "growth" seen on thyroid, it s difficult to comment further.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
