What Do Inflammation And Burning Sensation In The Throat Indicate?

Hello, I have a really red throat and it was burning for a while, I took Prilosec and the burning sensation went away but my throat is really hurting. It feels like it’s bruised when I swallow it also feels scratchy . My tonsils don’t have white patches like strept throat. I can see dark red veins in the back of my throat. What could it be. I have a drs appointment on dec 13th. Should I not wait til the appointment and go to urgent care.

Hi Dear,

Inflammation and burning sensation in the throat are probably due to a condition known as pharyngitis, which appear to you as a skin tag and create problem like gag reflux. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat culture and Blood tests. Avoid intake of spicy and sharp food and cold beverages. If it its due to viral infection then it will go away in few days without any treatment. If its bacterial then doctor will prescribe antibiotic course . For now take medication such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen to ease pain and reduce fever, gargling with warm salt water and using throat lozenges.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
