What Do Inflammation And Swelling Around A Foley Catheter Insertion Site Indicate?

I had a Foley catheter put in a week ago Wednesday. Unbeknownst to me, it was a latex one and I am quite allergic to latex. It was removed on Tuesday and replaced with a silicone one. When the latex was removed, the tissues around where the catheter was was swollen and fire engine red. After much discomfort in the attempt of inserting the new silicone one, the nurse was able to get it in properly. Now when my husband emptied the cath bag, we found a few tiny specs of what looks like dark blood flecks. Should I be alarmed?
