What Do Itchy Bumps On The Arms And Legs Indicate?
my 8 year sold has several small bumps on his legs and arms. They itch but not constantly. Some areas of his body have have bigger bumps with fluid. Not many but cannot determine if rash, hives or virus. We have given him Benadryl the past three days and applied Hydrocortisone cream that may have helped itching some but has not helped with treatment of the bumps. The bumps are the same color of his skin except in areas where there were some bumps with fluid where they were more red. Any suggestions for treatment? We are out of town on vacation so unable to see normal physician.
Hello I understand your concern regarding the itchy bumps your child has.
They seem to be allergic in origin. However, the skin bumps that are red and filled with fluid are probably affected by secondary bacterial infection.
You need an antibiotic ointment like fusiderm to be applied to the lesions after cleaning them gently with water and antiseptic soap. Dont touch them with bare hands. Avoid scratching them. Continue taking benadryl or cetrizine for 3 days for itchiness. If the lesions persists for more than 3 days, oral antibiotics like cephalexin/cipro and will be needed to be given for 3-5 days.
Hope I answered your query. Wish him good health.
Thanks and regards.
