Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a rash on the back of my hand that has been there for almost a year. It gets bumps that are itchy and once scratched the bumps ooze a clear liquid but stop itching. I use really hot water to stop the itching so that i do not scratch. I was prescribed a4mg of methylprednisolone which helped but once i ran out it came back. My physician was not a dermatologist and prescribed the methylprednisolone, which helped until i ran out. Is there any thing that I can get over the counter that will get rid of this problem. Also any ideas what it is? Thanks!
It looks like eczematous dermatitis. Methylprednisolone can help in improvement as it is a steroid.
So my suggestion is to consult a Skin Specialist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination can be done and if needed a microscopy of the scrapings from the scraping from the area can also be done for confirmation.
For now, you can apply a combination of a steroid and antifungal ointment like Betnovate GM as it can help in improvement. Also, you can take anti-allergics like Levocetirizine if the itching is intense. But getting checked by a skin specialist is a must.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora,
Dentist
