What Do Loss Of Peripheral Vision, Headache And Raised Painful Spot On Shoulder Suggest?

I have been In and out of the hospital now since July. First I just had a pain in the right side of my head and I lost my peripheral vision in my left eye and my vision keeps going blurry and doubled still. I went to the hospital and they sent me to an eye specialist. They were not able to find anything so they referred me to a Neuro doctor. I have yet to see until the 22nd of this month. The symptoms have processed to worsen. I went back to the hospital about a week ago because I now have a pain that goes from my ear down my neck and my left side. The hospital did nothing but give me some pain meds for a couple days and tell me to keep my appointment with the doctor. Now I have a raised spot that u can visibly see about golf ball size on my left shoulder where I have had a knot under my skin this whole time and it s very painful and my arm neck and head hurt now and the spot is painful to touch. What might this be and should I be going to the hospital?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Presence of a swelling over shoulder that is painful and tender to touch probably indicates a soft tissue infection (like a boil or cellulitis) there. This will need antibiotics along with analgesics. If pain and tenderness is not coming down after 48 hours of given analgesics, or fever comes, kindly get back to your doctor for antibiotics.

From the given details, I think this is not related to headache and visual disturbance you already had but need further insights. For the later complaints, probably we will need MRI scanning of brain. Neurologist will guide you in this.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
