Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Low Electrolytes, Low Potassium, Enlarged Liver And Stomach Indicate?
My 42 year old daughter is in the ICU in Florida. So far she has an enlarged liver and stomach. She has very low electrolytes and and low potassium. She is in and out of conscientiousness. Her doctors have no idea what she has or how to treat it. Any ideas?
Most probably, it seems she has portal hypertension, which might be due to either liver failure or a prior liver related pathology like cirrhosis, though in cirrhosis the liver is shrunken. The electrolyte imbalance is occurring due to contraction alkalosis due to her liver failure. She needs symptomatic treatment and a treatment of underlying pathology too.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
