What Do Lower Abdominal Pain And Spotting During Pregnancy Indicate?
my wife has confirmed pregnancy by upt. after 3 days of her missed period. she had intermittent lower abdominal pain and minimal per vaginal spotting of brownish fluid. TVS scan revealed intrauterine yolk sac with small(1x0.7cm) sub chorionic hematoma. what is the next step kindly advise
Lower abdominal pain and vaginal spotting/bleeding may be symptoms of sub chorionic hemorrhage in 1st and 2nd trimester of pregnancy. Most of sub chorionic hematoma don't cause any symptom and may be discovered just on routine ultrasonography during pregnancy. Most of these resolve themselves within 1-2 weeks.
Most of these do not result in any adverse outcome of pregnancy. However, some studies reveal a minor occurrence of miscarriage or preterm pregnancy due to sub chorionic hemorrhage. Most of hematoma do not require any treatment except adequate rest and to avoid strenuous activity to restrict miscarriage, if any. Treatment with oral or vaginal progesterone may be of some help, as confirmed with some studies. A regular follow up is always advised till the hematoma resolves or vaginal bleeding stops completely.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
