Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad just had an mri that shows disc bulging on multi-levels and foraminal narrowing. The worst is at L5-S1. We have been trying to get the VA to do the test for over a year now due to lower extremity weakness, numbness, tingling, muscle atrophy and loss of motor function. He can barely walk and falls frequently. He has some bladder issues but no loss of control. I m wondering if he might have cauda equina syndrome. If so, can these symptoms be reversed with surgery?
Yes, the surgery for PIVD and disc bulging is called decompression surgery and it relieves the pressure on the nerves which are pinched, thus the subjective complaints get improved.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
