Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am 71 years old and have suffered from Rheumatoid arthritis for approximately 8 years and have been having a fortnightly Humira injection and 7.5mg Methotrexate weekly. Over the last year my liver fuction has become elevated, so my Rheumatologist stopped the Methotrexate, 5 or so months ago but unfortunately the elevation is still uncreasing and current results are- ALT 112 U/L H 5-30; AST 87 U/L H 10-38; Albumin 36 g/L 32-48. I have been tested for Hepatitis and tests are ok. I don t drink or smoke. I had an ultra sound and seem to have a fatty liver. Not sure why that should happen now. Maybe it is the Humira which appears to have affected my metabolism. My diet has not increased and rarely drink aerated drinks etc. Mainly drink weak black tea. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hello and welcome to Healthcamagic. Humira ma yhave negative effect on liver and its function and me be cause of elevated liver enzymes. But fatty liver is mostly caused by high fat diet, high lipids, blood sugar and smoking. These risk factors should be corrected so that liver recovers. If there is still same result then humira intake should be reconsidered. I hope I have answered your query. I wish you a nice day.
