What Do Pain And Bruises On The Knees After An Injury Indicate?

About a month or so ago, I fell directly on my left knee. My right knee was also hurt, but by much less. For the first few days it hurt to walk, which I expected. After a week it didn t hurt anymore, but after a while, my knees started hurting again when I stood for a long time or when I knelt. Bruises started forming on the sides of my knees and they ve been there for at least three weeks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.

Your concern about your knee is obvious. First question about your injury, was there any twisting movement of your left knee or not? If it is there, you must consult orthopedic surgeon.
Other thing is than in any case of injury due to fall there will be some kind of bruising and scrathes on skin. With proper hygiene they heal themselves. However in your case if swelling is there around your knee joint with bruicing you must contact ortho surgeon tu rule out haematoma in knee joint.

Thank you.
