Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have started to experience moderate pain and some numbness in both arms in the past few days. It comes on suddenly and goes away after a few minutes. It also felt like it was radiating up into the left side of my neck for a few moments today but it went away. I have Afib and I am under a Cardiologists care. I see him every six months and receive an EKG, a Carotid ultrasound and Periperial Artery Ultrasound each visit. I just had a yearly physical from my Family Doctor and have recently had blood workup done by my Urologist. I have les than 50% blockage in both Carotid Arteries and less than 50% blockage in one Coronary Artery. No issues with my Peripheral Arteries. Sometimes I have mild pain in my chest but not that often. Otherwise, I am in good health. I am due to see my Cardiologist in early May. Does this sound like something that I need to go on to the ER about or wait until I see him in May? Thanks.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
This indicates peripheral neuropathy which is a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body. Treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medications however, many other causes may be seen so tests are required to identify the right one. Till that you can do some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol. Also take vitamin d supplements and regulate blood sugar levels.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Wish you a good health.
