What Do Pain And Numbness In The Shin After An Injury Indicate?

Hi! Little over a week ago I fell down the stairs at my mom s house, and my left leg hit and went through the wall on the other side. Fortunately nothing was broken and there was no bleeding, but since the accident, the pain in my lower left shin (though lesser than it was immediately after the fall) is still noticeable. There is no bruising, or cuts, but there is some pinkness around the most sensitive areas. Also, I can poke a dent into the sensitive area (though the leg does not look swollen) and there is a small area of numbness on it. What could this be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems the hit has caused trauma to subcutaneous tissue on the shin.. causing redness, pitting on pressure on the area. This is due to inflammation of the area/ probably tiny sub cutaneous bleeding under skin- which causes pressure on tiny nerve endings in skin, leading to burning. This should automatically be covered in a weeks time. Use of ice pack, a pill of anti inflammatory pill like Ibuprofen twice a day over the counter, to be consumed after food. If needed, If does not recover in a week consult your family doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
