Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was working in the garage 2 days ago and complained about some sharp pain in his ankle area. He thought his shoe had rubbed or something poked him. after taking his shoe off we saw his ankle was red and had some swelling. so then we thought it was a spider bite. its been 2 days now and the pain is exruciating his entire foot and ankle area are very red and swollen. the toes are sensitive but the foot and ankle area are so painful just to walk or stand. he has soaked it in warm water and epson salt and tried elevating it. and it hurts worse. my husband wont go to the ER. Do you have any idea what this could be?

What Do Pain And Swelling In The Ankles Indicate?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. It s extremely important for your husband to consult a doctor in the nearest medical center for complete evaluation, which includes: 1- Clinical assessment of the foot for signs of infection. 2- Complete blood count. 3- X-ray of the foot. 4- CRP and ESR tests. It s most probably a case of bacterial infection in the foot which needs urgent examination and treatment with antibiotics according to the results. I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. Take care.
