What Do Pain And Swelling In The Feet Indicate?

Upon waking could not walk, foot swollen. Day 1: my foot starting feeling painful. Day 2: more pain, but could still walk. Day 3: could not walk on foot. Started taking Ibuprofen. Day 4: pain starting to subside could hobble less swelling. Day 5: could walk with little pain. Day 6: back to normal, but a little numbness on top of foot. They was last week, tonite awaken by pain shooting up toe.
