What Do Pain And Swelling On The Jaw Indicate?

Hi, I guess my question would be What is WRONG WITH ME! Haha...sorry. I have been trying to find out why I ve had swelling lower jaw pain off/on for about 7 years. I thought this was causing sinus issues and swelling in my lymph nodes but now I m thinking it s the other way around. For almost 3-4 years I ve had doctors tell me that they thought I have TMJ but finally had a doctor show me where that would exist if I had it, so not the case. My symptoms are getting unbearably worse and this is what I m dealing with even at this very moment. My ear is currently on fire and in sharp pain on my right side only. I m not very educated with lymph nodes and glands but I have several swollen in my neck right now, one being right where my pressure point is behind the lower part of my ear. I feel like I can t mucus out most of the time so feels stuck but when I do get it out it has to come from the back of my throat so I m forced to swallow it. This actually helps to bring down the swelling in my neck for a short period of time. I get a dry horse cough when I deal with it for more than 1 day. The muscle on my right side is swollen along my teeth line and making the gum swell behind my back molar to the point the skin is pulled tight between my top and bottom molar like an elastic. This also causes my top back molar to scrape against the skin/gums to irritate it even more. Sorry for the lengthy message...I m just trying to be as detailed as possible because I m at a point that I can t handle hearing could be, sounds like and maybe. Knowing I m not physically seeing you I m hoping you can recommend a type of specialist.

Hello,

Swelling and pain in the jaw and swollen lymph nodes in the neck and swollen gum behind the last molar can be due to a condition known as pericoronitis.

It is inflammation of the gum flap around the wisdom tooth that causes severe pain, swelling and along with it difficulty in mouth opening. Swollen lymph nodes can also be due to it. Other cause can be an infection in the salivary gland.

So my suggestion is to consult an oral surgeon, and get evaluated and a clinical examination should be done. You can be advised an x-ray or ultrasound of the neck and jaw and a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and painkillers can be advised. Do cool compresses over the swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
