Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, as of two days ago i woke up to my jaw hurting right next to my ear. Mostly right on the TMJ. My cheek is slightly swollen, and the backside of my jaw (right below the ear) is probably the most tender spot. I have only mild pain and no detectable fever. I also have been taking aspirin as well as icing and warm compressing my cheek/affected area. What could this be?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The pain can well be from the TMJ. However, if there is swelling of the cheek, the possibility of an infection cannot be ruled out, specially if there is any infection in one of your tooth, like a carious tooth. So, I would advise you to see your dentist, who would see your oral cavity if there is any infection inside your oral cavity or bad tooth that is giving you the pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
