Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Pain And Weakness In The Left Arm Indicate?
I am experiencing pain that radiates down my left arm from my shoulder and is causing weakness in my hand and numbness from my elbow down and some loss of strength in my fingers. After having an MRI, my neck shows some arthritis and a bulging disc and narrowing where the nerve roots exits from the spine. I already tried a Medrol dose pack. My pain did not subside. I am not sure whether there is anything I can do to relieve the pressure on my nerve without surgery.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Without surgery, it's quite difficult for you to relief from pain but kindly consider surgery as it is necessary for your condition.
If you neglect it now then there is impingement of spinal nerves by the disk. Later if it gets worse, it can permanently damage the nerve and can cause paralysis of the part involved.
Later it's not possible to get back the function of the nerve if nerve damage goes irreversibly. So at this stage, at least you need to rethink about surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
