What Do Pain In The Upper Abdomen On The Left Side Indicate?

I have had some ongoing stomach and bowel discomfort since November but its getting worse for the last month now. I have stomach pain in upper left side with bloating and constant dull ache that wont go away with antacids. bowels are somewhat inflamed. feels like my internal organs are swollen, bloating gets worse thruout the day. some minor back pain between shoulder blades. I was somewhat diagnosed with either lupus or fribromyalgia a year ago with two positive lupus markers but doctor didn t want to treat it at this time. I thought that I might just be having a flare up or IBS which I have had in the past but even though I have cut out all Milk products and caffeine and am on a bland diet, my symptoms are not going away. I have an appointment set up with my GI doctor in a week but I was wondering what you may think is going on. My father and older brother have both recently had their gallbladders removed so I m wondering if that could be whats going on. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I feel you might be having gastritis or acid peptic disease. You need to follow some lifestyle tips such as:

1. Do not eat spicy food
2. Take medications for gastritis- Pantop/Omez/Rantac
3. Take little food at frequent intervals. Breakfast around 8am, small snack at 11am, lunch at 1pm, small snack at 4pm and dinner at 8pm
4. Drink plenty of water
5. Do not take alcohol, tobacco, excess of coffee and tea and do not smoke.
6. Do not take much of stress. Stress aggravates gastritis
7. Do regular exercise. Atleast half an hour per day
8. Learn meditation techniques
9. Follow this regularly for 21 days. It is said that anything you practice regularly for 21 days becomes a habit

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sanjay Kini
